The puppies are off to their new homes! :''( It's been so much fun watching them. I took some screencaps along the way, so I thought I'd share. Meanwhile, you might still see some adorableness at http://www.ustream.tv/sfshiba but I'd advise you to be quick!

And now they're off to their new lives. I hope they will continue to be happy and healthy and so adorable.

Little Bag

  • Mar. 19th, 2010 at 6:19 PM
Day 78 Had to stop at Boots on the way to work this morning, I have this little foldup bag in my shoulderbag for such events so I don't need one of their carrier bags. It's pretty and summery.

Little Bag

Tonight is Sport Relief, but I don't think I'll be watching because there doesn't seem to be anyone on that I'm bothered about seeing. I see that Eddie Izzard is on re his marathons, but I've missed the first episodes of his show cos I didn't realise they were on. Dad said they saw a programme about the John O'Groats-Lands End bike ride, and all you could hear was Davina McPointless screeching and screaming when they went downhill.

Happy Ficiversary To Me!

  • Mar. 19th, 2010 at 11:52 AM
Dear my dwircleflist, it is March 19! March 19, 2010! And that means it is my ninth anniversary of both writing and posting fic. Yes, it was soon after the airing of This Is Not Happening, in which (nine-year-old spoilers ahoy) Mulder was found dead in a field and Scully did her James-Earl-Jones-finding-out-he's-cast-in-another-Lucas-film and/or Shatner-shouting-'Khan' impression. CLEARLY IT NEEDED TO BE FIXED. Also, I was stuck at uni through a combination of blizzard, bus strike, and bike fail. Also, I couldn't help but notice the adulation several of my message-board cohorts were receiving for writing some very, er, questionable prose. Thus, through a combination of hubris and boredom, my first fanfic was born. Goopy, purple, shippy, WiPish, MSR and never finished, it exists on the AO3 as a testament to my completist nature and to my complete lack of shame.

In celebration of my ficiversary, I plan to write nine or ten double-drabbles today. They are the prompts from my last drabble-meme! I shall be posting them as I finish them, so you can get a feel for how long it takes me to write one (while also doing errands and such). I am happy to be writing and happy to be feeling the words coming, since it's been a struggle to get back into the writing groove recently. I think it'll give me that push back into editing th' ol' big bang that I really need. (Only ten days left until ALL IS REVEALED for the third round of [livejournal.com profile] house_bigbang! [livejournal.com profile] housebigbangers, I hope you're all editing and arting with appropriate fervor and perhaps eyeing a countdown clock with a healthy dose of terror in your hearts!)

I'm also going hiking tomorrow, and in order for that to happen, I need to accomplish some things. )

There, that sounds like a full and celebratory day!

And with all this ficitude in mind, I'm wondering! Dear dwircle, what's your ficiversary? How many years has it been? Is your first fanfic still up somewhere? (Do you plan on keeping it FOREVER AND EVER or at least as long as the AO3 lasts?) Is it too embarrassing to recall? What fandom? Were there Mary Sues, unbeknownst to you but knownst in retrospect? What have you learned since then? Are you serially monofannish, a fannish butterfly, or STILL IN YOUR FIRST FANDOM, DAMMIT, HOW DARE EVERYONE ELSE HAVE LEFT?

I'd love to hear how it all started for you! :D

Yay! and Awww!

  • Mar. 19th, 2010 at 6:53 AM
So I finished the complete write-thru -- hooray for long train rides without WiFi that forces you to actually do something. Now I'm trying to go through and give everything a final polish.

The question I have now as I'm going through ... how do you know the difference between tweaking something, and just plain meddling with what you've written? I swear, I could go through anything I've ever written and change this word here, change that sentence structure there, and so on and so on. But do any of those actually make a difference in terms of telling the story? Or is it just the equivalent of busy work?

I suppose this time I'll know to stop when I hand it over to my niece and kids for their feedback, but still ...

Sigh It kind of reminds me of when I was a flower girl at my sister's wedding when I was about seven years old, and kept stopping on my way down the aisle to move the flower petals I was dropping because they didn't quite look right. (Yeah, I was that kid who makes everyone laugh at the wedding.)

Backup Discs

  • Mar. 18th, 2010 at 6:30 PM
Day 77 My parents recently had a sort-out of all the accumulated CD-ROMs on their computer desk. They gave me these, which I made back when we had the big old Windows 98 desktop computer.

Backup Discs

I think they're a mix of fonts, icons, graphics files, photos, wallpapers and other unimportant-but-interesting stuff. Will investigate, should be fun :)

my happiness spilleth over!

WHAT I LOVE RIGHT NOW

- My James Patterson. I wibbled and wibbled whether or not to buy this ([personal profile] zulu totally enabled me!) and to get it I had to ask the Sony clerk to lend me a pair of scissors & the store bathroom and it cost sooooo many monies. SO WORTH IT. I LOVE MY BABY.

When discussing ebook readers, people always complain that "I love the feel of the paper in my hand!" Well bitches I love the feel of my James Patterson. Its's got this velvety back which I love to stroke and I love to push its buttons. It's a little slow in places but, alkdjfalkdjf, like, every time I lie down in bed with it I am all oh love love love love.

I've read two longish fic on it so far and I'm almost through The Left Hand of Darkness. I am eagerly thinking of what I'll read on it next! I stayed up last night just to read more and today I left late to get in early morning cuddles reading. This thing is genius. (All it's missing is a generate-[personal profile] zulu's-voice-reading-out-loud-to-you function. :()

My main regret is that I don't dare take it outside the house for fear I'll grow careless and ruin it by distraction (dropping the bag with it, walking in the rain with it, forgetting it somewhere).

If any of you were considering getting an ebook reader? I recommend them heart and soul.

- Lady Gaga. Guys. Please. I need meta on that Telephone music video because that is just SO WEIRD AND I MUST UNDERSTAND IT. Lady Gaga is one of my favoritest inventions! (And I say "invention" only a little tongue-in-cheek, because I am swiss cheese if Gaga is not a very deliberately-wrought construction). Picspams and covers also welcome.

- Y'all! What do you love with the love of a thousand suns (because suns *do* love) right now? <3

White Collar DVD commentary in progress!

  • Mar. 17th, 2010 at 10:19 PM
TwitPic from Jeff Eastin: Recording DVD commentary today with Tim & Matty (Caption as tweeted) - Tim appears to be sporting a thin moustache and snug jeans...

WCwriters tweet, "Yes, the DVD commentary includes Vital Signs."

Amazon has a listing for the DVD at $41.99 to pre-order, but no actual release date.

Obsessed much? Naw, not me.

*sigh*

Dwircle, why do I suck so hard at motivation right now? I need to make a vid and do a complete rewrite of my big bang in the next two weeks and every time I sit down to the 'puter I'm filled with do not want. Not big bad do not want, but "will refresh any page a dozen times rather than face it" do not want.

I did accomplish things today, mind! I went to class, I sent my paper title and biography to the conference people, I photocopied and filled out an authorization form (that I still need to fax), I read some LeGuin for next week, I ordered some prints of all the best pics of [personal profile] bell so that I can put them in a real physical frame and grin dopily at them (still need to purchase frame), I finally got to a point with my ethics proposal where everyone knows and approves of me coming to the ethics committee meeting. I checked my usual train-booking site and saw they won't let me book for July until April. And yesterday, well! I dealt with some student loan forms and other paperwork and cut my vidsong (or was that Monday? That may've been Monday), and...seriously, this doesn't feel like I'm getting anything done. Uh...I watched House? Hm. I'm caught up on comments and emails!

Well, I found and downloaded 250+ Brazilian Portuguese podcast lessons which I'm listening to right now. Alas for being a visual learner: I'm definitely going to have to find a book so that I can see what I'm saying. But in terms of getting a feel for the pronunciation and the rhythm of the language, they're good. And I'm hoping some of the words might rub off on me subliminally.

I'm on duty tonight. And being on duty for four hundred eighteen year olds on St. Patrick's Day is not really anyone's dream come true, I suspect. The vomit will be green. Maybe I should get some sleep now in anticipation of getting a lot of calls later tonight? Or maybe all this napping I've wanted to do lately is my body's procrastination technique!

I guess I'll go and work on finishing City of Illusions, and if I fall asleep, then I will accept that about myself! Hee. And then after duty walk, maybe stay up a bit and clip. It's only a two-minute song! And I have an idea of some of the high points I want to hit. I hope. *crosses fingers*

Uh...I don't know the point of this entry. More procrastination, I suspect!

...I want chocolate.

Boris The Andrex Puppy

  • Mar. 17th, 2010 at 7:09 PM
Day 76 Several years ago, Andrex had a collect-the-tokens offer whereby you could get a labrador puppy stuffed animal. I named mine Boris, after Boris Becker, who was playing his last (at the time) Wimbledon when he arrived.

Boris The Andrex Puppy

The dark fleck on top of his head is from where I accidentally dropped a blob of glue onto his head and it left a stain after I cleaned all the sticky out. But he doesn't seem to mind.

New Radio Alarm Clock

  • Mar. 16th, 2010 at 8:09 PM
Day 75 I bought a new radio alarm clock yesterday. This is my first digital radio, and I didn't realise that this means you can't adjust the clock. It plays & charges the iPod & has already charged the iPhone. Unfortunately the clock display (which you can't see here cos it's too bright) looks a bit crap when showing the time, it's really optimised for the radio display. But it woke me up this morning fine.

New iPod Charging Radio
Jeff Eastin put this on Twitter:

I just had to share - it's adorable, and it's REAL. It's apparently somewhere in Queens, and Tweeters are advocating using it as a White Collar location, which I think is a great idea!

Busy Today

  • Mar. 15th, 2010 at 3:35 PM
Day 74 I just took this out of the oven. It's for our collective lunch tomorrow, other people are bringing in stuff too. The cheese was supposed to be taleggio, but no-one had any (Sainsburys always do, but they're closed for refurbishment) so I had to use mozz.

Tart For Tomorrow

It smells nice, too. It's from a Nigel Slater recipe, and is one of my few tried-and-tested cooking ventures (so long as I can get the ingredients).

Mondays! Am I right, dwircle? Yeah, I'm right.

Trying to get on track with more to-dos. Very small increments of accomplishment so as to feel more productive. )

That's all I got for now. Hm, next item on list is "eat breakfast". Somehow at noon that feels like a fail. OH WELL, I GO TO PROCURE FOODZ.
